שָׁלוֹם God’s Goodness for Every Part of Life
shalom (shaw-lome'): Peace, completeness, welfare, well-being, safety, prosperity
This week’s word is shalom. In English, we usually translate it simply as “peace,” but in Hebrew, it carries so much more weight! As you can watch in this excellent breakdown from the Bible Project, shalom describes a sense of wholeness, completeness, and restoration. It’s the state of things being exactly as they were meant to be—thriving, healthy, and unified. It isn’t just the absence of conflict; it’s the presence of God’s goodness, justice, and harmony in every part of life.
The Bible uses shalom to describe a world where people are at peace with God, with themselves, and with each other. From the peace of a restored relationship to the holistic health and flourishing of a community, shalom is God’s design for how life should be lived.
Where do you need to see God’s shalom—His restoration and wholeness—invade the broken or weary places in your life right now?
