מָלַךְ: Learning to Pause & Pray

malak (mah-lak): To reign, to be king, to rule

This week we're looking at a rich phrase from Nehemiah 5:7, where it says Nehemiah "took serious thought." It's not just a quick decision or an emotional reaction—it's a deliberate pause to think, pray, and consider what's right. We see this same pattern in Nehemiah 1:4 and 2:4: when he's faced with a challenge or anger, he doesn't just react impulsively. Instead, he pauses, takes counsel with God, and then acts faithfully.

In a world that pressures us to respond immediately, Nehemiah shows us a different way: pause, pray, and then act with intention. Where in your life do you need to "take serious thought" instead of simply reacting?

Scriptures where we find "malak":

Genesis 37:8 — "to him, Are you actually going to reign over"

Exodus 15:8The LORD shall reign forever"

Judges 9:14 — "You come, reign over"
